If you love sport and are putting together an Australia holiday packages you probably want to make Melbourne your base. Australia is the home of many sporting events all the year round but the cream of the crop take place in the city of Melbourne.

At the start of the year, in February it’s the turn of the Australian Tennis Open – televised worldwide. This event takes place at Melbourne Park and is the first Grand Slam event of the year. The tennis open runs over the last two weeks of January with a few days of qualifying rounds beforehand. Attendance at this grand slam event is always high; the two main courts have retractable roofs in the case of inclement weather.

In March the Grand Prix runs over four days in the stunning Albert Park location offering amazing views of the Melbourne skyline. If you love speed, cool cars, the latest technologies with a huge amount of glamor and adrenaline thrown in then the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne should be on your list of things to do during your Australian holiday package. The Formula One weekend offers something for everyone, in 2012, the freestyle motocross team the Crusty Demons will be in attendance as will the Australian Defense Force with their aerial display team. Don’t forget to pack your ear defenders – the must see accessory for everyone at a Grand Prix.

The Melbourne Cup – the race that stops a nation – takes place on the first Tuesday in November every year which is also a public holiday in the state of Victoria. The Melbourne Cup is definitely the main event of the Australian racing calendar; at least 100,000 people attend the meeting – most of whom get well and truly dressed up in their glad rags for the occasion. There are several very high stakes races including the handicap with prizes of A$2 million. That shouldn’t stop you putting a couple of dollars on though.

Australians love their rugby in the winter – whether it is Rugby League or Rugby Union – the national teams in both disciplines compete annually in international competition including the Rugby League World Cup and Four Nations and for the Unionists The Rugby Championship and Rugby Union World Cup. Most cities have their own cup competitions and, in the Southern Hemisphere, Rugby Union teams compete in the Super Rugby Cup.

No list of sporting events in Australia would be complete without mention of Cricket. Once world leaders in the sport the national team has, more recently, been sliding down the rankings. The bi-annual competition with England for the world famous Ashes Trophy is one event which seems to be on everyone’s mind all the time! In world cricket the Australian team had an unbeaten run spanning four world cups and thirty four games!

Sport is always and everywhere in Australia with fantastic facilities available for everyone – access for all seems to be the mindset of a nation who spends much time out of doors. Whatever your sporting predilection you are sure to find an event to watch whilst enjoying your Australia holiday packages tour.

Anyone can do a quick flight comparison to find the best rates. It is all in the sites you choose. With so many airfare comparison websites available, it is foolish not compare flights. Read on to see how simple it really is. The internet has revolutionized shopping and it has done the same for air travel. Type “airfare flight comparison” or similar phrase into the search box and take your pick from the results. Most use the same data so it comes down to personal preference. Some have better tools or an easier layout.

No matter which you choose, the inputs are mostly the same. Enter the departure and arrival destination along with date and time preference. There may be other preference you can choose like non-stop or ticket refund options. Check these as appropriate.

Once submitted, the site pulls in fares from the major airlines that match your search. The page will display the fares from your preferred travel dates and time, but also alert you to lower fares. For example, the site will show you if there are lower priced flights if you fly on a different day or at a different time. Even an hour or two differences in flight time can make a difference in price.

The site will also generally show you an optimized price is you are willing to fly two different airlines. This can also result in substantial savings. Also, include any nearby airports in your search. Airlines sometimes lower prices to build traffic. A longer drive may save significantly on an airfare. So just an extra few minutes of time can add up to substantial savings. Flight comparison is so easy these days that it just does not make sense not to do it.

The fifth continent is one of the most attractive travel destinations in the world. A nature that is second to none awaits the visitor in “down under”. The continent is mostly charmed by its rich flora and fauna. There are on the continent but also some striking mountains. The highest peak of the Snowy Mountains is 2229 m high Mount Kosciuszko. The highest mountain in Australia, which represents Big Ben, at the same time the only volcano in the country dar.

The most striking mountains in Australia are the lone island mountains. The best example of such a peak is Uluru, also known as Ayers Rock. A sunset at Uluru will meet all the usual clichés and still is – or perhaps because of it – beautiful and a must for all visitors to Australia.

Australia has retained its natural diversity and uniqueness, since a large part of the country is uninhabited. In the so-called Outback, the pristine wilderness, many poisonous animals from their homes. Australia’s wildlife is not only poisonous snakes, but also from the very special inhabitants of the continent. Kangaroos, Koalas, the Platypus or Wombat are the real stars of the outback. With the most beautiful natural attractions, the Australia has to offer, the Great Barrier Reef off the northeast coast of Australia. This beautiful reef is about 2000km long, the largest coral reef in the world.

Australia’s cities are concentrated in the coastal strip. The interior is virtually uninhabited. The country’s capital is Canberra. The best-known cities of the country are undoubtedly Sydney With its unusual opera or Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth or Adelaide.
Australia’s cities show the lives of Australians, but the real beauty of the country begins outside the city limits.

Common conceptions about South Africa see the country as largely wild and untamed, yet at the same time acknowledge the fact that it is filled with major cities, where great opportunities for fun and leisure await. These conceptions are somewhat right, but they are also somewhat superficial. Why? For the very simple reason that South Africa is a very complex realm, one which you can read about, do research on, keep updated on, yet which you will never truly get to know until you experience it first-hand. Thanks to many tour operators and an overall global liberalization of tourism, it is now very easy to witness South Africa first hand in the truest sense of the expression, via superb, relaxing and inspiring walking walking holidays. If you’re not entirely familiar with the concept, allow us to tell you that there is no better way to live the genuine experience, no matter your destination, until you have walked a country’s roads and pathways.

The South African Western Cape

South Africa is rather famous as a wine-maker on the global level, alongside California, Peru, Chile, France, Italy and several other countries. The Western Cape is an attested geographical unit in the Wine of Origin classification system according to which South African wines are classified. It received this designation in 1993. Centuries before, though, as early as 1685, with the establishment of the Constantia Estate, the ‘Vin de Constance’ started being produced. This unfortified white wine was made from a blend whose major component was a Muscat Blanc à Petit Grains, Pontac, red and white Muscadel and just a touch of Chenin Blanc. European kings and emperors soon found themselves swooning over this type of wine, from Frederick the Great to Napoleon. Thus began the journey to fame of this region, which seems to have been invented for walking holidays.

Suggested Route

By choosing to walk across the South African Cape Winelands you will experience the pure “fynbos,” only to be found in the Cape floral region, the world’s smallest, yet richest of six floral kingdoms. It is home to no less than nine thousand species of flowers, most of which you’d be hard-pressed to find anywhere else in the world. Don’t worry about safety—there are footpaths which will ensure your privacy and security. The beauty of the countryside can be experienced over the course of one or two days, but for a truly immersive and rewarding journey, we suggest an itinerary that will have you walking some one hundred kilometers during the course of six days. Walking holidays in this region seem to reveal wine-making estates every other step of the way. One thing is for sure—this journey is bound to be one joyous journey. Prices typically revolve around the five hundred British pound mark for two people sharing a room, including accommodation and some local transport. The best season to visit the region is definitely European winter, specifically from early October to late April.

Costa Rica is a wonderful country, well known for its natural beauty and multiple opportunities for fun. However, like all countries in the world, certain precaution measures apply to foreign travelers. The Australian Government has come up with a brief set of guidelines for locals traveling down to the beautiful Central American country. While not prescriptive, but to be taken simply as orientation, it is advisable to bear these commonsensical notions in mind, as you prepare to set out on what is likely to be a fun-filled, adventurous holiday. Know what to avoid, what not to forget when planning and make sure you and your loved ones enjoy the best possible experience in Costa Rica.

Safety Comes First

Unfortunately, as can be said about most countries in Central America, Costa Rica, too, runs a high risk of serious crime, and tourists must pay particular attention to this aspect. Always travel informed—check the news portals and closely follow the country’s situation online and on TV before setting out on your journey. While out partying and having a good time, remember to avoid getting caught up in a crowd, as pickpockets forgive no one, and there are fewer experiences more unpleasant than ending up without your passport, credit cards or cash in a foreign country. This is especially true for Costa Rica, where there is no Australian Embassy or Consulate. In case of need, however, Australian citizens will be assisted by the staff of the Canadian Embassy in San Jose or the Australian Embassy in Mexico City. Definitely take out travel insurance before the journey and register your contact and travel details, so you can be easily and quickly located, should an emergency arise. Incidents of foreign citizens involved in drug-related crimes in Costa Rica have been reported, while using unlicensed taxis is also a serious risk, which one should not take lightly.

Documents, Fees and Money

Before setting out, you will need to pay a departure tax of $26. Bear in mind that there is nowhere to exchange Australian Dollars in Costa Rica, but it’s fairly uncomplicated to convert US dollars and travelers’ checks. A very good idea is to use a free currency calculator to be totally sure that you know everything. You should definitely set up an emergency plan, which will place money at your disposal overseas, such as credit cards, debit cards or cash cards. Be cautious when using your credit card, though, since the incidence of fraud in this department is rather high in this country. Always keep your card in sight when using it for a transaction and make sure to check your account for any unauthorized operations. Your passport will also be a target for criminal activity, so, to play it safe, make sure you have two photocopies with you when you travel. Should your passport be stolen or misplaced, contact the Australian Embassy in Mexico city to receive a replacement emergency document.

Local Conditions

The roads in Costa Rica are not the best maintained in the world, which is sufficient reason to drive exceptionally safely. Also make sure you are secure when swimming, since there are strong coastal currents at work on the coast of the Caribbean and the Pacific. Do a bit of research with local authorities for any reported threats of crocodiles and bear in mind that there aren’t many lifeguards around on the public beaches. Legally speaking, Costa Rica basically enforces the same set of laws as Australia, with a particular focus on cracking down hard on drug offences. You should also use your camera with caution, since it is illegal to photograph official buildings. Additionally, try to avoid taking pictures of local women or children in the street, as you may unwittingly cause a violent incident.

Traveling abroad is always a fun experience, but planning and preparing for such a journey can take a big toll on any traveler, no matter how seasoned. Simply put, there are a lot of things that one needs to get done prior to departure. Forgetting one pivotal step (such as taking out insurance… or even taking your passport as you drive off to the airport) can cause a lot of unnecessary hassles and stress. To this end, what better way to be and stay prepared than a checklist? Read on, especially if you’re leaving Australia any time soon. Cross off all those things you’ve already done, highlight those that still need doing… and then prepare to have fun on the Old Continent, in exotic Asia, in the vibrant Americas, or wherever else your roads might take you.

Be Ready & Informed
The first and most important thing to do before you leave is to register your itinerary online or with an Australian embassy office. This way, should disaster strike, you will be quickly located, or even notified beforehand. Next, it’s always a good idea to find a good source of local news for your destination, as well as one for travel advice, and subscribe to it. This way, you will know if, say, an ash cloud is about to ground your flight. Then, analyze the risks of the country you’re traveling to, as well as the specifics of your planned journey.

Take Care of the Paperwork
There are no better ways to be ready for whatever incident might come your way than comprehensive travel insurance policies. Check that your passport is valid for at least another six months from your date of return to Australia, check for visa requirements, and leave a copy of your passport, tickets and route back home, with either family or close friends. If you have dual nationality, you may be subject to special requirements, and not being informed on them can cause serious hassle, such as reaching your destination only to have to return back home.

Health and Money
If you suffer from any chronic conditions, it is always a good idea to see your general practitioner before you leave, or even before you even purchase tickets or make reservations. Some climates may take a serious toll on certain illnesses, and you definitely want to investigate any scenarios before embarking on your trip abroad. Additionally, it is always a good idea to see the doctor at least six to eight weeks before you leave, in order to discuss any possible health risks present in that country, which might be affected by pandemics or other issues. Visiting most countries in Africa (but not only) will require vaccination, which, in turn, will entail that you are kept under observation for a sufficient span of time, so as to prevent or treat adverse effects. If you’re planning to take any medication with you, you need to make sure that the laws of the country you’re traveling to allows you to transport it. If in doubt, you might want to have your doctor write a letter explaining that you need the substance for personal use. Money should always be accessible to you overseas—set some aside in debit or credit accounts, for a ‘last resort’ option. Try to avoid exchanging money at your destination and carry as little cash as possible, in order to avoid theft.

Holidays to Australia can be a costly affair to say the least so it’s worthwhile trying to figure out how and where cost cutting can begin. Most will find that travel agents aren’t particularly kind to our pockets when booking long distance journeys which is why many people tend to piece their holidays together by themselves, booking accommodation and flights separately for instance. Those two are probably where the most money can be saved, but there not the only areas.

One thing we all need to do is eat and drink so you need to consider the options there. You may want to spoil yourself with a top class three course meal in a swanky restaurant, which is fine so long as you budget it in, but what about the rest of your meals. Do you need to be spending full price for small meals during the day or even breakfast? Nowadays the internet can provide us with the ability to cuts cost in this area with things like Groupon deals.

There will be plenty things you intend to get up to whilst visiting Brisbane such as heading to Cruise the Brisbane Rover, Museum of Brisbane or the Sir Thomas Planetarium, but none will be free. Cost cutting in areas that you wouldn’t normally consider will help you save more money for enjoying the things you like including various excursions.

Online you will find plenty of Brisbane deals allowing you to save money on food in hundreds of worldwide food chains, from fast food to quality restaurants that are found within the city. However, you may not want to stop at food as searching online you are able to find plenty of great deals covering shopping and day trips to many places. Who knows with a little research you could unlock great savings that allow you to do what you want when you want whilst on holiday!
